Police: Newark Burglar Sets Clothes On Fire, Kicks Officer, Jumps Off Balcony As House Burns
A 34-year-old Newark burglar was arrested after setting clothes on fire in the living room igniting of the victim's home, igniting a two-alarm blaze -- then kicking a responding officer and jumping off a balcony, authorities said.
Naim Workman, 34, knew the victim whose Hobson Street home he entered around 9:50 p.m. Sunday, Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose said.
Workman used lighter fluid to ignite clothing on a living room sofa on fire, then threw the burning garments at police, Ambrose said.

Newark police are looking for an Irvington man who they said kicked down the door of a residential apartment and assaulted the resident on Christmas Day, authorities said.
Bryant L. Bookman, 27, is facing burglary and assault charges in the 12:50 a.m. incident on Unity Avenue, Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose said.

Authorities: Newark Girl, 14, Sexually Assaulted By Linden Pastor
A Linden pastor has been charged with the sexual assault of a 14-year-old Newark girl, authorities said Wednesday.
Clifford Brower, 57, a pastor at the Blessed Assurance Church in Newark, is believed to have committed "various acts of sexual assault" on the girl on Aug. 5, 2019, Acting Assistant Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II, and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose said.
Brower is currently being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, on charges of sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, Ambrose and Stephens said.
