Prosecutor: 40 Pounds Of Pot, $5,500 In Drug Cash Found In Route 80 Stop
An Ohio driver had two duffel bags stuffed with 40 pounds of pot, along with $5,500 in suspected drug money, when he was stopped on Route 80 in Lodi, authorities said.
Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said detectives from his office stopped an Acura MDX driven by Cecil C. Chan, 67, on the westbound highway earlier this week as part of a drug investigation.
After a Bergen County Sheriff’s K-9 indicated drugs were in the SUV, the detectives searched it, he said.
The 18 kilos of pot was in vacuum-sealed bags, the prosecutor added.

A North Bergen driver fought with North Arlington police after they caught him carrying a large amount of pot for sale, along with joints, THC oils and drug cash, authorities said.
An officer stopped a black SUV driven by 32-year-old Jean C. Peguero on Belleville Turnpike near Roosevelt Street for having its lights off at 2:45 a.m. Monday, Police Chief Scott M. Hedenburg said.
Officers noticed a strong smell of raw marijuana coming from the vehicle, leading to a search that turned up the contraband -- including $3,000 in drug money, Hedenburg said.

A shoplifter who left her 9-year-old daughter behind while trying to flee the Englewood ShopRite was arrested soon after, authorities said.
Lois King, 33, who was with carrying $90 in stolen good with her daughter when a security guard at the Nathaniel Place supermarket tried stopping her last Saturday, Detective Capt. Timothy Torell said.
King bolted, leaving the youngster behind, but the guard chased her down, he said.

Fort Lee Police Seize 3 Pounds Of Pot, $10,000, In Drug Raid
FORT LEE, N.J. -- Fort Lee detectives seized three pounds of pot and $10,000 in proceeds while busting a local condo tenant, authorities said.
James Wu, 27, was charged with selling the drug and money laundering, Capt. Matthew Hintze said.
A tip led Anti-Crime/Narcotics Bureau investigators to the Marycrest Condominiums at 2345 Linwood Ave., Hintze said.
Soon after, Detective Sgt. Cory Horton and Detective Bryan Drumgoole arrested Wu and made the seizures, he said.
Wu was taken to the Bergen County Jail, only to have a judge release him a day later under New Jersey’s bail reform law.
