New Long Island Mosquito Samples Test Positive For West Nile
Eight new mosquito samples tested positive for West Nile virus on Long Island, bringing the total to 46 on the year, health officials in Suffolk County announced.
Samples collected on Tuesday, Aug. 13 and Thursday, Aug. 15, tested positive for the virus in Lindenhurst, North Babylon, Nesconset, Bohemia, Farmingdale, Huntington Station and Selden.
Officials said that no humans have been infected, though three birds have tested positive for the virus, but homeowners have been cautioned to avoid having standing water on their property.

Selden Girl Accused Of Driving Drunk Crashes Car A Second Time After Leaving Accident Scene
A 17-year-old girl accused of driving drunk fled the scene after her car struck a pedestrian before the teen was involved in a second crash, Suffolk County Police said.
The girl, Christina Burns, of Selden, slept at the home of a family on Ashford Drive in Bohemia, after attending a party there on Saturday evening, Aug. 10, according to police.
