A 9-year-old Morris County boy who recently finished years of treatment for leukemia celebrated his recovery with the help of dozens of firefighters, police officers and other community members. Nesim Aktas of Boonton was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia toward the end of 2017, when he was in first grade. An increased number of senior citizens throughout Morris County have been targets of a range of telephone scams involving schemes such as bail money, car accident funds and most recently, COVID-19, officials said. A driver was hospitalized and the passenger killed after crashing into a tree in Jefferson Saturday morning, authorities said. 28 Morris County Jail Inmates To Be Released
Twenty-eight non-violent offenders being held in the Morris County Jail were released Tuesday in compliance with a New Jersey Supreme Court order, authorities said. Inmates serving sentences of less than a year were ordered released by 6 a.m. over concerns of the coronavirus spread. A registered sex offender from Morris County who served time for sexually assaulting two boys is headed back to prison for uploading child porn. Man, 64, Dies In Parsippany Garden Apartment Fire
A 64-year-old resident was killed in a fire in a Parsippany garden apartment Sunday afternoon, responders said. His name was being withheld pending notification of next of kin. A firefighter refused medical attention for a cut sustained battling the first-floor Rutgers Lane blaze, which broke out in the Rutgers Village Apartment Complex just after 12:30 p.m. and severely damaged two units, they said. A teenager and a a younger sibling called 911 after a fire broke out at their Parsippany home, ultimately displacing the family, authorities said.
