This story has been updated. There was gridlock on separate stretches of the Merritt Parkway Saturday evening in Fairfield County after crashes that took out the left lanes before being cleared. The first incident occurred on the southbound side at Route 104/Long Ridge Road (Exit 34) in Stamford. Merritt Parkway Reopens After Closure During Evening Commute
This story has been updated. The Merritt Parkway has reopened after an incident caused its closure early Tuesday evening in Fairfield County. The southbound side was shut down between North Street (Exit 31) and Lake Avenue (Exit 29) in Greenwich beginning around 6:30 p.m. One lane reopened around 7:15 p.m. Both lanes reopened by 8 p.m.

This story has been updated. A stretch of the Merritt Parkway has reopened after a serious crash. The closure, on the southbound side, is at Guinea Road near the Stamford/Greenwich border and began around 4 p.m. Gridlock stretched back to Norwalk during the closure and all traffic was routed via surface streets into Greenwich. An earlier crash, reported at 3:15 p.m., caused southbound gridlock at North Street (Exit 31) with stop-and-go delays to Den Road (Exit 33).

Fairfield County Man Nabbed After High-Speed Chase On Merritt Parkway
Connecticut State Police were forced to use stop sticks to apprehend a motorist who took officers on a wild ride on Route 15. Members of the Wilton Police Department attempted to stop a Honda, driven by local resident Ijebol Holmes, on the Merritt Parkway at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Friday morning, when he sped away near the northbound exit 42 in Westport, state police said. Gov. Dannel P. Malloy signed an executive order directing state agencies to conduct a $10 million study of Connecticut's transportation needs. Another black bear has been struck and killed by a vehicle, this time on the Merritt Parkway in Greenwich.Greenwich Police confirmed they had received a call regarding the bear on the side of the roadway near Exit 31 and referred the matter to state police. The bear was apparently struck Friday evening, with calls to authorities beginning on Saturday. Last week, a bear was hit and killed by a vehicle on I-84 in Newtown. Injuries Reported In Crash That Causes Merritt Closure
Injuries have been reported in a rollover crash that led to a car fire and the closure in both directions of the Merritt Parkway in Fairfield late Saturday afternoon. The southbound crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. near Exit 46 in front of the Fairfield rest area, state police said. Traffic was detoured through the rest area during the time the parkway was closed. Three Separate Fires Break Out In Fairfield
Fairfield firefighters were on a run all day Wednesday responding to three fires in under eight hours in addition to EMS and alarm calls. The fire calls started with a call at 12:52 p.m., to a fire on the third floor of a home on Toilsome Hill Road, said Chief Kyran Dunn. Responding firefighters found an attic fire they were able to extinguish with damage limited to the attic area, the chief said.
