Wild Stolen Ridgewood Car Chase Goes East From Hackensack, Then Back West To Paramus, 2 Caught
Police once again pleaded with owners to lock their vehicles -- and not leave their keys or fobs behind -- after a wild noontime car chase Sunday that criss-crossed Bergen County and ended with two in custody. "I really don't want anyone hurt or killed when we are responding to stolen vehicles," said Ridgewood Police Chief Jacqueline Luthcke. Hackensack PD: Accused Burglar Breaks Business Glass Doors, Swipes Cash Three Times
A Hackensack man with a criminal history burglarized two Main Street businesses – one of them twice -- by breaking glass doors with a rock, said police who arrested him. Peter W. Tobin, 52, hit Fairmount Eats twice and B&W Bakery, taking cash from the register each time, Detective Capt. Darrin DeWitt said Thursday. The businesses are a block and a half apart. Tobin, of Poplar Avenue, was charged with three counts each of burglary and theft and two of criminal mischief before being released pending a Sept. 23 first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.

UPDATE: A worker fell more than 50 feet Friday morning from the parking garage of a high-rise tower under construction in Hackensack when he stepped on a piece of unmarked plywood that someone used to cover a hole, authorities said. Hackensack Employee Helps Chase Down Car Thief
An employee at a Colombian restaurant in Hackensack who just had a company vehicle stolen jumped into another and chased the thief, who city police said they caught after following footprints in the snow. The driver told police that he’d left the vehicle running in front of Pollos a la Brassa Mario on Main Street when the thief got behind the wheel and took off around 7:40 a.m. Saturday, Capt. General Poor's Tavern will soon be back in business. The beloved Hackensack watering hole closed last spring after more than 40 years on Main Street. According to a banner that recently went up outside of the establishment, General Poor's will soon reopen under new management. The joint has been untouched for years -- and patrons hope it will stay that way. "I hope they leave the inside alone and don't 'modernize' it," one opined on Facebook. 3 Hospitalized After NJ Transit Bus Slams Hackensack Sears Light Post
Three NJ Transit passengers were transported to the hospital after a the bus they were on struck a light pole in Hackensack Monday morning. The bus driver was attempting to make a U-turn outside of Sears on Main Street when the bus hit a pole, just after 6:30 a.m., fire officials said. Six other passengers refused medical treatment and three were transported to HUMC with unknown injuries, the Hackensack Fire department said. An NJ Transit spokesman told NJ.com that the bus -- No. 772 from New Milford to Carlstadt -- is operated by Saddle River Tours.

Hackensack PD Releases Photos Of Valley National Bank Robber
Hackensack police released new images of a man who they said robbed a Valley National Bank of $10,000 last month. They also released photos of the getaway car. The robber approached a teller at the Valley National Bank on Hackensack Avenue just before 12:30 p.m. Saturday wearing a black watch cap, green jacket, and black gloves, with his face partially concealed by a gray cloth, authorities said at the time. Hackensack Furniture Store Employee Injured Trying To Escape Blaze
An employee of the Hackensack furniture store that broke out in flames Wednesday morning was injured while trying to escape the blaze, fire officials told NorthJersey.com. It was unclear whether or not the Buy and Save Furniture 2 employee was being treated for their injuries. The four-alarm fire started around 10:40 a.m. at 153 Main Street.
