The victim was walking to her house on Walnut Street when she saw two men arguing in the middle of the street, a spokesperson for the Elizabeth Police Department said. She then heard gunshots and suffered a gunshot wound to her knee, authorities said. The woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The incident took place in Stratford around 11:56 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 16, when Stratford Police responded to the store on Hawley Lane to investigate a car that struck the building, said Stratford Police Capt. Frank Eannotti. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a car had driven through the front bay door and struck a customer, he said. The injured customer was transported to a local hospital with non- life-threatening injuries. The incident is still under investigation.
