Leonia Firefighters Quickly Douse House Blaze
Leonia firefighters made quick work of a Sunday night house blaze. The Hawthorne Terrace fire broke out around 11:20 p.m. and was quickly knocked down. Bergen Pair Charged With Laundering $5.7 Million
The owners of several businesses in Leonia and Palisades Park laundered $5.7 million to avoid paying taxes on it, said authorities who busted them. Guatemalan nationals Juan Quevedo-Garcia, 40, and Magda Quevedo-Garcia, 35, were booked into the Bergen County Jail on Thursday and ordered released by a judge hours later, records show. Teaneck Car Fire Spreads To Home
What began as a driveway car fire quickly became a house blaze in Teaneck Wednesday afternoon. The fire extended to a 2½-story home in the 500 block of Tilden Avenue around 4:30 p.m., a responder said, adding that everyone got out safely. A communication systems technician for New Jersey State Police died after being ejected from his motorcycle in a Budd Lake crash, local police said. John Zaki of Landing was headed eastbound on Route 46 when he was struck by a 2002 Toyota near Chamberlain Road on Sept. 29 around 2 p.m., Mount Olive police said. Edgewater Driver Charged With Carrying 72 THC Vape Cartridges
An Edgewater driver who at 20 already has an adult criminal history was carrying six dozen THC vape oil cartridges when he was stopped, borough police said. Marc A. Helewa, 20, told detectives who stopped him on Hilliard Avenue and Edgewater Place for having no front license plate and tinted windows that he had some pot in the center console of his 2014 Mercedes E350, Detective Sgt.
