Man Treated In Hackensack Is NJ's Third

A man in his 90s is New Jersey's third COVID-19 fatality, officials said. The man was being treated at Hackensack University Medical Center. It is not clear when he was admitted. "Our prayers are with his family during this difficult time," Murphy said in a tweet. The other two deaths were a Little Ferry man and a Freehold woman, whose cases were reportedly linked. The news came hours after the City of Hackensack announced its first case: A 49-year-old woman who was self-quarantining at home. 19: First Case Announced In Hackensack
A Hackensack woman was the city's first presumed positive case of COVID-19, city officials said Monday night. The 49-year-old woman was discharged from a local hospital and recovering in self-quarantine at her home. The news comes just after Bergen County Jim Tedesco announced a new executive order closing malls and most other businesses effective Tuesday night. As of Monday afternoon there were 178 coronavirus cases in the state, with 32 in Bergen County -- by far the most statewide.

Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco's executive order declaring a state of emergency will not be implemented as requested by Gov. Phil Murphy, officials said Thursday. Tedesco on Monday announced the executive order calling for the shutdown of malls, non-essential retail and banned groups of four or more people from public gatherings by Tuesday at 11 p.m. Then, Tuesday morning, Tedesco announced he was postponing the order until Saturday. A drive-thru COVID-19 test center is coming to Bergen County, local officials said Monday. Another presumptive case of coronavirus emerged in Bergen County, this time in Garfield, authorities said. The case brings the county total to 14 and state total to 30 as of Thursday evening. Schools in all 75 Bergen County districts will shut down indefinitely at the close of Friday's school day in a bid to stem the spread of the coronavirus, County Executive Jim Tedesco said Thursday night.
