Feds: Jersey Shore Dealer Convicted Of Selling Cocaine, Crack In Monmouth, Ocean Counties
An ex-con was convicted in federal court of selling cocaine and crack along the Jersey Shore, authorities said. Damion “Checks” Helmes, 42, of Cliffwood was the last of 20 defendants convicted of peddling the drug throughout Monmouth County and into Ocean County. Jurors in U.S. District Court in Trenton found Helmes guilty of various drug-dealing charges while acquitting him of two gun offenses following a two-week trial. Authorities ID Irvington Kayaker Who Died In Raritan Bay
Police have identified a kayaker who died after being pulled from Raritan Bay. Carlos Melendez, 64, of Irvington, was kayaking with a friend when police were called at about 1:35 p.m. Sunday, July 31, Keyport police said. Police found one kayaker on the shore. That person told police Melendez was still in the water. Officer Chris DeGroat, a member of the Monmouth County dive team, took a kayak and went into the bay and found the man, Keyport police said. Police have identified the two teenagers from Essex County who were arrested on the Jersey Shore in connection with a stolen BMW. On Friday, May 13, shortly after midnight, a Tinton Falls police officer located a BMW 3-Series sedan that was reported stolen from Lawrenceville Police. The BMW fled from the Tinton Falls officer and the pursuit was terminated on the Garden State Parkway due to excessive speed, police said. Stolen Car Crashes On Jersey Shore, 2 Suspects Arrested, 2 At-Large
A stolen car carrying four suspects crashed on the Jersey Shore, authorities said. Holmdel police said the suspects fled on foot after the crash early Friday, May 13 at Everett Road and Route 520. Police caught two of the suspects, they said. Two others remained at large. On Thursday afternoon, May 12, an unconfirmed report said that a stolen Mercedes had struck a home at Oakcrest Court off Centerville Road. Garden State Parkway Service Area Renamed After Frank Sinatra
The Atlantic Service Area on the Garden State Parkway in Galloway has been renamed in honor of Frank Sinatra, a native of Hoboken, according to the New Jersey Turnpike Authority. The name change became official on Thursday, April 21 when “Frank Sinatra Service Area” signs were installed on the Parkway. Gov. Phil Murphy announced last year that Parkway service areas would be renamed to honor New Jersey Hall of Fame inductees in the arts, entertainment, and sports. Monmouth County Hazmat Team Responds To Propane Leak: Developing
Firefighters and a Monmouth County hazardous materials team were called to a serious crash in Central Jersey, according to developing and unconfirmed reports. The crash occurred about 1 p.m. Wednesday at South Street and South Holmdel Road in Holmdel, initial reports said.
