According to data from the U.S. Census covering 2013 through 2017 released last month, several communities in Bergen and Passaic have some of the highest earners in the state. Photos: Fire Damages Midland Park Beauty Salon No injuries were immediately reported in a late Tuesday afternoon fire at a Midland Park beauty salon. The two-alarm blaze ignited on the exterior of the Godwin Avenue building that houses Custom Cut Salon before making its way inside just after 4 p.m. The salon and apartments above it in the three-story building were evacuated safely. Kids See Firefighting Techniques, Equipment Up Close At Ho-Ho-Kus Open House Children in Ho-Ho-Kus got to see firefighting equipment and techniques up close during an annual open house that closed National Fire Prevention Week. Firefighters demonstrated advanced firefighting and life- saving techniques – including a simulated building fire with a roof rescue. Children got to participate in exiting a simulated smoky residence and taking firehose target practice during the event, hosted by The Ho-Ho-Kus Volunteer Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary. “Sparky,” the department mascot, distributed fire safety booklets, autographs and photos. The 25-year-old borough man told police who found him standing on the outside framework of the walkover bridge at 10:40 p.m. that he "had a disagreement with his girlfriend and was feeling depressed," Lt. Tom Dowling said Tuesday.  Ho-Ho-Kus and Saddle River helped close the highway in both directions, and borough firefighters and an ambulance were dispatched, Dowling said. Fallen Tree Blocks Busy Washington Township Road A fallen tree blocked a heavily traveled Washington Township road Monday afternoon. The tree fell onto high-tension electric lines and communications cables in the 700 block of Werimus Road, bringing police and firefighters from the township, a PSE&G crew and police from Hillsdale and Ho-Ho-Kus.
