Nearly 1,500 have signed a Change.org petition to save three buildings in Stamford's South End National Register Historic District that are slated for demolition in six months. Authorities are investigating a fire that broke out at a historic Somerset County home once a retreat for New Jersey celebrities. Fire companies from several towns responded to 751 River Road in Hillsborough around 4 a.m. after 9-1-1 calls came in Thursday, Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson said. A historic 127-year-old mansion was consumed by fire in Newark Thursday night, Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said in a statement.
