A Somerset County woman who set fire to a business sign in Mercer County was charged with arson, authorities said.
Alicia Schmitter, 40, is accused of using a lighter to set fire to an advertisement flag in front of Angie’s Multiservices on the 1800 block of South Broad Street in Hamilton just before 3:10 a.m. on Thursday, April 21, local police said.
Schmitter, of Franklin Park, was seen on surveillance footage walking out of sight before officers found her lying on the sidewalk nearby, police said.

Mildreth Santamaria-Tirado, 40, of Corona, is accused of trying to fraudulently collect $15,000 from a Hamilton man on Friday, April 15, the Hamilton Police Division said.
The victim received a call from a man claiming to be from the FBI stating that his daughter had been arrested for possessing 100 pounds of marijuana earlier that day, police said.

A Mercer County Walmart worker promoted the sexual assault of a 5-year-old and actively distributed child pornography, authorities charged.
Kevin Pearsall, 30, of Trenton, was charged with various child pornography possession and distribution offenses, as well as first-degree aggravated assault as an accomplice, conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, and child endangerment as an accomplice, Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J.
