Summer is coming. In advance of what he says he hopes to be a “normal” summer, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo issued new guidance for the state’s beaches and pools. For Memorial Day on the weekend of Friday, May 28, beaches and pools in New York will be open with six-foot of social distance in place between those in attendance, with restrictions to be eased if the state continues seeing improved COVID-19 numbers. 19 Outbreak Among Teens Linked To Party In This Union County Town, Mayor Says
Several new COVID-19 cases among teens in one Union County town have been traced to a recent party, officials say. Westfield had gone two weeks without cases up until June 30. Since then, 17 new cases were reported. Most of Westfield's new cases are between ages 18 and 24 years old, and attended Fourth of July and graduation parties, Mayor Shelley Brindle said. Since Tuesday, there have been 10 new cases reported in Westfield, Brindle said. Five of seven positive cases reported Friday were between ages 17 and 19, she said. Pair Killed In July Fourth Newark Shooting
Two people were killed in a Fourth of July shooting in Newark. Nekeya Grady, 36, of Willingboro and Earl Cohen, 46, of Newark, were shot on the 100 block of Brookdale Avenue and were pronounced dead at the scene around 3 p.m., Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II said. The investigation is active and ongoing. No arrests have been made.
