Emerson PD Busts Reputed Brooklyn Counterfeiting Crew With Dozens Of Bogus Bills
Several accused members of a Brooklyn counterfeiting crew that's been operating in North Jersey were carrying dozens of bogus bills when Emerson police stopped them, authorities said Friday. An alert was issued after the crew passed a couple of fakes at a Fairview QuickChek on Monday. Emerson police spotted their four-door Toyota and pulled it over around 1 a.m. Thursday. 'Long Time Coming': Accidents Spark Reconfiguration Of Busy Pascack Valley Intersection
Changes to a busy Pascack Valley intersection are under way. A county analysis of the Forest Avenue at Soldier Hill Road -- which runs through Emerson, Oradell and Paramus -- found that safety improvements were necessary largely due to the high numer of traffic accidents at the locations. Just last month, a passenger was hospitalized after being extricated by Paramus firefighters following a crash at the busy intersection. Nearly 100 members of the Pascack Junior Police Academy will be certified in CPR – the largest number ever in New Jersey, authorities said. Unattended Pot Ignites Westwood Condo Fire
Firefighters from several Pascack Valley companies rallied to the aid of their Westwood colleagues during a Friday morning kitchen fire at a local condo. Rapid response helped firefighters contain the two-alarm blaze, which apparently was ignited just after 11 a.m. by an unattended pot on a stove in a first-floor unit at the Roxbury condominium complex on Fairview Avenue. Jacqueline Winter Thomas of Emerson died on April 18, having recently been accepted as an English fellow to Brandeis University’s PhD program. She was 28 years old. Jacqueline earned a Bachelors degree in literature from Ramapo College of New Jersey and a Masters of Fine Arts in creative writing from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, her obituary says.
