Gang Member Admits Planning Murder, Committing Gunpoint Robbery: NJ Feds
A member of the Rollin’ 60s Neighborhood Crips gang admitted his role in planning a murder and robbing a victim at gunpoint, federal authorities said. Federal prosecutors used the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) law to charge Tre Byrd, 22, and dozens of other reputed gang bangers rounded up by a collection of crime-fighting “supergroups.” Byrd, they said, belonged to the Rollin’ 60s Neighborhood Crips – a violent drug-selling gang -- for seven years. Man Staying With Family Friend Dies In Edison Fire: Prosecutor
A 71-year-old man died in a fire that broke out at a family friend's house in Edison, authorities said. First responders called to a blaze on Poll Place found James Thomas, 71, of Edison, in an upstairs bedroom of the home, unresponsive around 5:50 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Edison Police Chief Thomas Bryan said. Thomas had been staying with the family, Ciccone and Bryan said. He was taken to JFK Hospital where was pronounced dead. UPDATE: Police were justified in killing an ax-wielding Edison man who got within a few feet of an officer before he was finally shot, a grand jury has found. Hamilton Motorcyclist Killed In Route 1 Crash In Central Jersey
A motorcyclist from Hamilton was killed in a Route 1 crash in Edison, authorities said. The name or age of the motorcycle rider had not been released by police. The crash occurred at about 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 20, on Route 1 northbound, Edison police said. A South Carolina man was found guilty of fatally shooting a Speedway Gas Station employee during an armed robbery in Edison, authorities said. Marcus A. Wright, 27, was convicted on Tuesday, Sept. 12 by a jury of the murder of John Bertram, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone. The murder occurred on Dec. 20, 2018.
