Scooter Rider Killed By SUV On Route 1 Survived By Son, Wife, Campaign Says
Support is on the rise for the family of a 22-year-old man struck and killed by a vehicle on Route 1 in Edison. Raul Montoya-Chavez, of Edison, was hit in the southbound center lane of Route 1 at about 1:45 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15 as he tried to cross at Plainfield Avenue, Edison police said. Montoya-Chavez died of his injuries at an area hospital, police said. The 61-year-old Rahway man driving the SUV had a green light and is not expected to be charged, police said. Police ID Electric Scooter Rider Struck, Killed On Route 1
A 22-year-old man on an electric scooter was struck and killed along Route 1 in Edison, authorities said. Arrangements have been finalized for New Jersey State Police Trooper II Marcellus E. Bethea, who died during training last week. Bethea, 33, had been training to join the TEAMS Unit, an emergency response unit "prepared to handle extra ordinary police emergencies," the NJSP website says. He died on Sunday, May 5. Gov. Phil Murphy said he died at headquarters in Ewing. It was not immediately clear how. The crash occurred at about 9:20 a.m. on Monday, April 22 southbound near Parsonage Road, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation. 21-Year-Old Jumper Rescued From River Beneath NJ Bridge, Police Say
Edison police rescued a 21-year-old man who jumped off the Morris Goodkind Bridge, authorities said. The call came in shortly before 6:30 a.m. Monday, April 15 along Route 1 near the Raritan River Boat Club, Edison Deputy Chief Robert Dudash said. Police found an unoccupied car on the bridge and a man in the water, Dudash said. Two officers swam out to rescue the man, he said. A 41-year-old woman from South Amboy has been charged with first-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of an ex-boyfriend, authorities said. Anneris Deleon also has been charged with weapons offenses in connection with the death of Anthony Patterson, 32, of Edison on Thursday, April 11, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone.
