A man was killed after being struck by a train in Morris County Monday morning, authorities said. The man was struck by the Morris and Essex Line Train #6611 near the NJ Route 124 bridge in Madison around 8:45 a.m.., an NJ Transit spokesperson told Daily Voice. The train had departed the Penn Station New York terminal at 7:49 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Dover at 9:17 a.m., authorities said. Morris County native and truck driver Daniel J. Merz died May 31 at St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville. He was 31. Merz was born in Dover and lived in Rockaway Township for 11 years, his obituary says. A cyclist was hospitalized after being struck by a tractor-trailer in Morris County Tuesday morning, police said. The accident occurred near the intersection of Route 56 and Pequannock Street in Dover just before 11:30 a.m., Captain William Newton told Daily Voice. : Morris County Officers Revive Unconscious Man With CPR
Four Dover police officers were awarded Life Saving Award citations for reviving an unconscious man using CPR. Officers Louis Sperry, Mario Tamariz, Juan Concepcion, and Anthony Morin responded to a report of the unresponsive man near Richards Avenue and North Bergen Street, Dover Police said. The officers took quick action and began administering CPR to the man — a Dover resident — for a “significant amount of time,” ultimately saving his life, the department said. “Great team work!” the department wrote on Facebook.
