Storm With Damaging Winds Knocks Out Power To Thousands In Hudson Valley
Thousands in the Hudson Valley are without power after a line of strong storms brought whipping winds to the region that toppled trees, brought down limbs, and downed power lines. Crews worked around the clock overnight to make repairs to hundreds of outages brought about by wind gusts topping 50 mph, but as of 9 a.m. on Tuesday, March 8, more than 15,000 Hudson Valley residents were left in the dark as they wait for power to be restored. 19: Westchester Dropping Mask Mandate For County Buildings
Westchester is rolling back some of its mask mandates as the county continues to see improved COVID-19 numbers following the post-holiday surge of new infections. County Executive George Latimer announced on Monday, Feb. 14 that the mask mandate inside county buildings is no longer required. According to Latimer, the mandate is being lifted at county buildings in Yonkers, Mount Vernon, and White Plains, though it remains in effect on Bee-Line buses, as per state requirements. Westchester County set a record as the number of active COVID-19 cases across the county hit a new high. During a COVID-19 briefing on Tuesday, Jan. 4, County Executive George Latimer said that fueled by the Omicron variant, Westchester now has 27,692 active cases of the virus, the highest that they’ve seen since the pandemic began almost two years ago. A new dine-in movie theater will soon open its doors in Westchester County. LOOK Dine-in Cinemas will open its new location in Dobbs Ferry on Thursday, Jan. 13, according to a representative for the company. The movie theater will open at 1 Hamilton St. in Dobbs Ferry, located off the Saw Mill Parkway in Rivertowns Square. Representatives said the theater will feature eight auditoriums. Expect Delays: Traffic Stoppages Scheduled On Saw Mill River Parkway
Motorists should be prepared for traffic stoppages later this week on the Saw Mill River Parkway. Between 11 a.m. and noon on Friday, July 23, 15-minute traffic stoppages are expected along the northbound and southbound parkway between Exit 12 in Hastings-on-Hudson and Exit 17 in Dobbs Ferry, the New York State Department of Transportation said. Suspect Apprehended After Police Sergeant Stabbed During 'Unprovoked' Attack In Westchester
A police sergeant is recovering at home after being stabbed during an unprovoked attack by a local Westchester County resident who has been apprehended. The attack took place around 1:26 p.m., Thursday, May 20 in Dobbs Ferry. The Dobbs Ferry Police sergeant, whose name has not been released, was assisting Con Edison with a traffic detail on Beacon Hill Drive, said Dobbs Ferry PD Chief Manuel Guevara.
