Popular bakery-café chain Panera Bread will hold a grand opening for its newest location, located in Deer Park at 403 Commack Road, at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, the company announced.
It won’t be the first Panera in town, as the restaurant was previously located at 1258 Deer Park Avenue, roughly two miles away.
In addition to the typical dine-in or takeout options, the new digs boast a drive-through window for added convenience.

Teacher Sexually Abuses Underage Student At School On Long Island, Police Say
A teacher at a Long Island school is accused of sexually abusing an underage student.
William Sperl, age 60, of Deer Park, was arrested at the Eastern Suffolk BOCES campus in Bellport on Tuesday, Aug. 29, according to Suffolk County Police.
Investigators said Sperl engaged in a sexual relationship with a female student at the school’s Riverhead campus, where he works as an audio production teacher, in 2020.
The student was a minor at the time of the alleged relationship, police said.
Sperl is charged with four counts of third-degree rape and seven counts of third-degree criminal sex act, …
Terroristic Threats: Man Nabbed For Assault, More On Long Island, Police Say
A Long Island man was arrested for harassment, assault, and more after police said he made threats at two different places, including one church.
On Tuesday, Aug. 15 at approximately 1:05 p.m. in South Farmingdale, Nassau County Police reported that Deer Park resident Besart Astafa entered the Medwell Spa located at 34 Hempstead Turnpike.
Once there, Astafa, age 28, allegedly began to make terroristic threats, the specifics of which were not released by officials.
Customers were able to intervene, restraining Astafa until police arrived and placed him into custody.

26-Year-Old Fatally Shoots His Mother At Their Deer Park Residence, Police Say
A Long Island man has been apprehended after police say he shot and killed his mother at their residence.
The incident happened around 9:20 p.m. Friday, July 14 in Deer Park, on the 1600 block of Deer Park Avenue.
The victim, Deborah Strauch, age 64, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Suffolk County Police.
Her son, Tyler Strauch, age 26, has been charged with second-degree murder.
He was scheduled for arraignment Saturday, July 15 at First District Court in Central Islip.
