Wild Chase: Thief Fleeing Paterson PD Crashes Sedan Stolen With Kid, 5, Inside
A 17-year-old carjacker crashed while fleeing Paterson police in a sedan that he'd just stolen with a 5-year-old child inside, authorities said.
The owner had left the 2010 Nissan Altima running, with the youngster inside, in front of the Goody II Chinese and Spanish restaurant on Union Avenue around 9 p.m. Monday, Public Safety Director Jerry Speziale said.
All available uniformed officers and detectives flooded the area in response to the call, Speziale said.
Twenty minutes later, Lt. Louis Pacelli spotted the sedan behind Public School #5, he said.

Roundup: 19 Weapons Seized, 12 Arrested In Newark
More than a dozen firearms were recovered in a series of gun arrests in Newark since last week, authorities said.
The firearms were recovered in the city’s dozen gun arrests between Dec. 6 and Dec. 12, Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose said in a release.
In addition to being charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, many suspects face other charges, including robbery and kidnapping, authorities said.

Police: Warren County Burglar Throws Child On Floor, Says ‘Go To Heaven’ During Weekend Attack
A home burglar threw a child from their bed onto the floor, telling them to “go to heaven” during a Warren County weekend break-in, prosecutors said.
Cashmere Holmes, 27, broke in to a Phillipsburg home and held a child down before telling them to “go to heaven” and throwing them on the floor, Warren County Prosecutor James L. Pfeiffer said.
Holmes, of Phillipsburg, was caught on surveillance footage running from the home and was arrested Friday, authorities said.
Holmes was charged with burglary, criminal restraint, terroristic threats and endangering the welfare of a child.

State Police on Sept. 9 asked for the public's help in identifying a man who stole items from the Hainesport ShopRite.

Port Authority PD: Man Who Assaulted, Abducted Companion At Newark Airport Captured After Crash
Port Authority police captured a driver who they said assaulted a companion at Newark Airport, sped off with her and her friend in his SUV and then crashed.
The incident began Thursday afternoon at the Terminal B arrivals area, Port Authority Media Relations Deputy Director Amber Greene said.
Jason Strong, 30, of Staten Island, assaulted a woman, then sped off with her and her friend in the Cadillac SRX, which crashed along Meeker Avenue in Newark, Greene said.
The 6-foot, 180-pound Strong -- who already was wanted on warrants -- took off on foot and was quickly captured, she said.
