Englewood police this week joined the growing number of law enforcement authorities in North Jersey who've urged residents and merchants to lock their vehicles and take their key fobs. Police everywhere -- not just in Englewood -- have gone from frustrated to angry that more and more motorists are basically inviting thieves to steal their vehicles. A man was stabbed in the back of the head before dawn Sunday at a home in Englewood, authorities confirmed. Detectives recovered a large kitchen knife and detained everyone at the home on Bennett Road, a few doors from Mackay Park, after responding to the call around 1:30 a.m., Deputy Police Chief Gregory Halstead told Daily Voice. The 50-something victim was taken to the trauma unit at Hackensack University Medical Center where he remained in serious but stable condition on Sunday. A reward of $1,000 is being offered to anyone who can help lead authorities locate more than a dozen Montville street signs. The thefts began on July 26 and continued through early October, the Morris County Sheriff's Department said. The thief stole 23 black and white aluminum signs and four brackets, authorities said. The reward for finding a seeing eye dog from Sussex County who’s been missing nearly 2½ weeks was increased Thursday to $6,000. An anonymous tip line also was established to report any sightings of Ondrea, the 14-month-old black and tan German shepherd who reportedly bolted on June 24 after pushing through an exterior door with a broken latch at the Wantage home of a volunteer puppy raiser. In a neighborhood plagued by violence, Englewood police chased down a man who they said peppered a house with paintballs from what looked like a genuine weapon.
