Police Issue Warning After Rash Of Residential, Auto Burglaries In Area
Fairfield County continues to contend with a rash of burglaries as opportunistic fraudsters break into unlocked homes and cars that are parked in the area overnight. The Darien Police Department issued an alert on Thursday, Jan. 10, as they continue to experience an increase in overnight-hour burglaries into unlocked vehicles. Porch Pirate Caught Stealing Package In Westchester, Police Say
A real-life Grinch is in police custody after he was caught red-handed stealing a package from the front door of a Westchester home. Joshua Ismail, 25, of Bruce Avenue in Yonkers, was arrested this week after he was caught on camera stealing a neighbor’s package and walking off with it, according to Yonkers Police. In the video, hecan be seen walking on Bruce Avenue in sweatpants and a hoodie doing a double-take when he saw the package. Scarsdale Police Department Gets New Undercover Car Donation In Time For Christmas
The Scarsdale Police Department received an early Christmas gift this year. Scarsdale Police Chief Andrew Matturro announced on Friday that the department has received a donation from Esurance of a vehicle that will be used for undercover police operations. Matturro said that the vehicle will “assist the Scarsdale Police Department in undercover stings, patrols and crime prevention operations.” The car remains under wraps, but will soon join the fleet to assist officers in cracking down on crime in the village.

Porch Pirate Busted Stealing Package In Westchester, Police Say
A porch pirate was arrested in Westchester after getting busted stealing packages from a local home, police said. Bronx resident Jean Tapia, 33, has been arrested after allegedly stealing a package from a home in the Edgemont neighborhood, Greenburgh Police Sgt. Brian Matthews announced on Wednesday. Tapia was arrested this week and charged with one count of petit larceny. He has been booked at Greenburgh Police Headquarters and has since been released on bail. Darien police are once again reminding resident to lock their vehicles and remove valuables following a rash of car burglaries and thefts over the weekend. Police Probe Packages Stolen Outside Homes In Westchester Community
As the holiday season approaches police are investigating four different incidents of thefts of packages from doorsteps and expect more "porch pirates" to be on the prowl. The thefts took place between Oct. 18 and Nov. 3 at four homes in Greenburgh, said Lt. Kobie Powell with the Greenburgh Police Department. Newly Released Stats Show Increase In Auto Thefts, Larcenies From Vehicles In Greenwich
Greenwich Police said new stats show that an increase in the number of motor vehicle thefts is up this year. To date there have been 52 reported car thefts, said Greenwich Police Lt. John Slusarz.
