Police Body Cam Footage In 3 Union County Departments Under Review To Improve Training
Body camera footage from three Union County police departments will be reviewed in a new program designed to improve training. The Union County Prosecutor's Office will be reviewing footage from Roselle, Cranford and Plainfield police departments as part of the 90-day program. Law enforcement agencies that utilize body cameras have greater officer accountability, safety and a “quicker resolution of civilian complaints,” officials said. Drive-In Movie Theater Coming To Cranford
Grab some friends and prepare your popcorn — The Cranford Theater's drive-in location has received township approval. The theater will begin selling tickets once an official announcement is made on its website. Sign up for email alerts here. Newark Man Sentenced For Role In $3M Credit Card Fraud
Another ringleader in a scheme to steal millions of dollars from banks using false identities was sentenced Friday to seven years in prison, the state Attorney General's Office said. Aqeel Sheikh, 58, of Newark, had previously pleaded guilty to money laundering and conspiracy. Sheikh was part of a scheme in which identities were created using stolen Social Security numbers coupled with phony names and birth dates. A 30-year-old from Elizabeth has been charged with burglarizing commercial vehicles in Cranford and making off with tools worth thousands of dollars, the Union County Prosecutor's Office and Cranford police said in a joint statement Friday. Convicted Sex Offender From Cranford Admits Sharing Child Pornography Online
A 36-year-old Cranford man pleaded guilty Friday to distributing child pornography over the course of a few months last year, the U.S. Attorney's Office said. Christopher Gardiner, who also pleaded guilty to online enticement of a minor to engage in criminal sexual contact, had sexually graphic online chats between March and June 2018. Cranford police are investigating after a driver asked a boy on a bicycle for directions, an incident similar to another encounter last month. The 12-year-old boy was on Lexington Avenue near Unami Park around 6:15 p.m. Monday when a man in a dark-colored sedan stopped in traffic, asked for directions, and also asked if he would follow him, police said. UPDATE: The man was found safe Oct. 29, Cranford police said Police in Cranford are looking for a 56-year-old man with dementia last seen nearly a week ago. Jean Elize of Hillside was last seen walking north on Springfield Avenue at Penn Road in Cranford around noon on Tuesday. He was wearing a light-green jacket, gray pants and a light-brown hat.
