The number of COVID-19 hospitalizations continues to pile up on Long Island, where there were more than 2,800 new cases, according to the latest data from the state Department of Health.
In Suffolk County, 1,439 new COVID-19 cases were reported from tests taken on on Thursday, Jan. 21, according to the state Department of Health. There were 1,364 new infections in Nassau.
The number of new cases is the highest of any region in the state outside of New York City, where there were 6,307 new cases reported during the same timeframe.

Long Island saw a new increase in the COVID-19 positive infection rate, along with more than 3,700 newly reported cases, according to data released by the New York State Department of Health on Saturday, Jan. 9.
There were 2,002 new cases in Suffolk County and another 1,742 in Nassau for a total of 3,744.

Covid-19: Hudson Valley Sees New Positive-Test Rate Increase; Latest Breakdown By County
The positive COVID-19 infection rate of those tested in the Hudson Valley has dipped slightly, but stayed relatively steady as New York continues combating the new "holiday surge" of the virus.
In the past three days, the positive infection rate in the Hudson Valley rose from 8.33 percent on Monday, Jan. 4, down to 8.18 percent the following day, and back up to 8.21 percent on Wednesday, Jan. 6.
Hospitalizations are down slightly, to 951 in the Hudson Valley, down from 986 earlier this week on Tuesday, Jan. 5. The number represents 0.04 percent of the region's population.

Covid-19: Here's Latest CT Positive-Test Rate, New Rundown Of Cases By Communities, Counties
The latest positive rate of those being tested for COVID-19 covering the last four days in Connecticut is 6.05 percent.
The new data released late Monday afternoon, Dec. 28 covers Thursday, Dec. 24 through Sunday, Dec. 27.
A total of 139,889 tests were administered during that time, with 8,457 coming back positive (6.05 percent).
A total of 1,219 patients are currently hospitalized statewide, an increase of 19.
There were 113 COVID additional deaths over the weekend.
