A Closter resident had just received a notification that FedEx had delivered five iPhones when a thief dashed up, snatched the package from his porch and ran, authorities said. The victim went to the door and yelled at the thief, who hopped into a getaway car and fled, Detective Lt. Vincent Aiello said. Checking out similar complaints elsewhere, Detective Sgt. Keith Dombkowski identified the suspect recorded on the victim’s home surveillance video as Oliver Castillo, 22, of Jersey City. Firefighters Douse Haworth Blaze
Firefighters quickly put down a late-night blaze that seriously damaged a Haworth home. Welding work in the master bathroom of the Sunset Avenue residence ignited the three-alarm blaze, which spread to the attic, around 10:40 p.m., responders said. Firefighters had it knocked down and under control in a little over a half hour. No injuries were reported, officials said. Mutual aid responders either at the scene or in coverage included firefighters from Closter, Demarest, Dumont, Hackensack, Harrington Park, New Milford and Tenafly. Haworth police and EMS also responded.

Estimated $55,000 In Cash, Jewelry Stolen In Northvale Burglary
Someone made off with an estimated $55,000 in cash and gold jewelry during a burglary in Northvale, authorities said. A rear door was bashed in and the Veterans Place home ransacked sometime between 3 and 9 p.m. Saturday, Police Chief Howard Ostrow said. The Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification collected fingerprints and other evidence. Norwood and Closter police assisted. The body of a Closter man who went missing in Lake Tahoe five weeks ago was found more than 1,500 feet below the surface, authorities said. Keith MacBain died at his home in Southampton on Sunday, Sept. 13 due to complications from Parkinson’s Disease. Keith was born in Englewood, NJ, and lived on a small farm in Closter, NJ, where his father ran a kennel. He later attended Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts and graduated in 1956. He received a B.A. in English from Cornell University in 1960 and an M.A. from Columbia Teachers College in 1964. Help Sought For Family Of Bergen Man Believed Drowned In Lake Tahoe
Funds are being raised to help pay for an anguished Dumont family’s trip to Lake Tahoe, where a 29-year-old member was believed drowned. Ryan Normoyle of Closter had been vacationing when his rented boat was found drifting near shore on Aug. 10. What began as a search and rescue soon turned into a recovery mission that, as of Wednesday, was still continuing. Closter Police Officer Dragged By Paramus Driver
A Closter police officer was hospitalized after being dragged by a fleeing motorist from Paramus on Thursday, authorities said. Sang Lee, 24, initially drove past several "road closed" signs on Closter Dock Road while ignoring three uniformed officers who tried to stop him, forcing a group of construction workers to flee to safety, Detective Lt. Firefighters doused an early morning house blaze that ravaged a Closter home. A generator tentatively was the suspected cause. Fire blew through the roof of the 2½-story residence on Closter Dock Road near Anderson Avenue after breaking out shortly before 7 a.m. The three-alarm blaze caused significant damage.
