An 18-year-old driver and her two young passengers got out OK after she crashed a Tesla sedan through a chain-link fence on a notorious Westwood curve. Two Emerson Towing employees had to remove a section of fence before they could tow the vehicle out and onto a flatbed following the crash where Mill Street makes a hard left into First Avenue around 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 23. Stricken Tow Truck Driver Crashes Into Tree Off Route 17
A tow truck crashed into a tree just off Route 17 in Paramus when its driver suffered what responders said was a medical episode Tuesday afternoon. A paramedic team from the Valley Hospital tended to the driver from Criger's Auto Body in Fairfield near the former Barnes & Noble at the intersection of Glen Avenue and the southbound highway before taking him back with them. Tens of thousands of honeybees had a hive-swarming party that temporarily closed a stretch of downtown Ridgewood on Monday. It wasn't immediately clear what brought the colony to the tree in front of the Starbucks on East Ridgewood Avenue. Perhaps there was a promise of more honey and shorter working flowers. Two drivers escaped without major injury when their SUVs collided Monday in Ridgewood. The 911 call was chilling. A Fair Lawn police dispatcher heard what sounded like gunshots and people crying in the background as a caller claimed that he'd shot his mother and was holding two siblings at knifepoint. Fair Lawn patrol units and tactical officers immediately converged on Roosevelt Place at Berdan Avenue, where the call purportedly originated shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday, April 27. Basement Fire Quickly Doused In Ridgewood
Ridgewood firefighters made quick work of a Tuesday morning basement blaze. The fire broke out in the utility room of the $3.6 million Crest Road home shortly before 10:30 a.m. April 25. Flooring and/or tile work apparently was being done on the house at the time, responders said. Two adults and a child who were home got out OK, and damage apparently was minimal, they said. Several businesses in downtown Ridgewood were evacuated as a precaution after a painter's van caught fire on Monday. The van owned by Geraghty Painting & Powerwashing in Ridgewood was unoccupied when the blaze broke out in the parking lot behind the movie theater and other businesses on East Ridgewood Avenue shortly before 1:30 p.m. April 24.
