Large Bear Killed After Being Struck By Two Vehicles In Connecticut A large black bear was killed after being hit by two vehicles on Route 202 in Connecticut. The crash took place around 9:30 p.m., Friday, May 30, in Litchfield County, on Route 202 in the Town of Litchfield, near the Torrington line, said Will Healy with the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. There were no major injuries to the drivers of the vehicles, the bear was deceased upon DEEP EnCon Police arriving at the scene, Healy said. The Peekskill Police Department issued an alert that there was a reported black bear sighting this week in the area of Welcher Avenue and Washington Street. While taking in the sights, the bear did not approach anyone or cause any disturbances. The animal was first reported near the Kearny Wawa around 4 p.m. Saturday, then at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison. Approximately 12 hours later, the bear was spotted on top of a business at Cleveland and Passaic avenues.  Police said the bear eventually climbed down and ran across the street to the Hampton Inn. Brad Chase said that at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 5, a man was walking his three dogs in the McLean Game Refuge off Firetown Road when they encountered a bear. Chase said that the bear bit the dog, and while attempting to intervene, he too was bitten in the leg by the bear. The Westport Police Department said that on Monday, June 29, it received multiple reports of black bears making the rounds in the northern section of town.
