Prosecutor: 50-Year-Old Man Critical After Jersey Shore Stabbing
Authorities are investigating a stabbing that critically injured an Ocean County man this weekend. A 50 year-old man from Berkeley Township was stabbed in the neck on Saturday evening and remains hospitalized, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer and Berkeley Township Police Chief Karin DiMichele said. The stabbing took place about 7 p.m. in teh Manitou Park section of town, they said. Police found the victim near Magnolia Avenue. Prosecutor: NJ Catholic Church Deacon, 70, Caught With Child Pornography
A 70-year-old church deacon from Ocean County has been arrested for possessing child pornography, authorities said. The man served as deacon of St. John's Roman Catholic Church in Lakehurst, they said. Anthony Laterza of Berkeley Township has been charged with three counts of possession of child pornography, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer. Man Shot In Head Leaving Toms River Apartments Dies, 19
A 19-year-old Bayville man shot in the head leaving Toms River apartments over the weekend died of his injuries, authorities said. Javon Cutler of Bayville succumbed to his injuries at approximately 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune City, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Health officials on Monday updated a list of every longterm care facility in New Jersey with coronavirus cases -- accounting for more than 50 percent of the state's total. Altogether, there are more than 500 nursing homes and healthcare facilities with COVID-19 cases and fatalities in the state. Two Hurt In Ocean County Garden State Parkway Crash
Two people suffered non-life threatening injuries in a two-vehicle crash on Wednesday afternoon, authorities said. One of the injured motorists was flown by Medivac helicopter to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune City after a northbound car and tractor-trailer collided in Berkeley Township at milepost 77.5, a state police spokesman said. The other injured driver was taken to the hospital by an EMS crew. Troopers from the Galloway barracks were called about 2:30 p.m.

The latest summer casualty of coronavirus in the Ocean County Fair. County Fair officials announced Wednesday that the July event — a five-day celebration of agriculture that attracts thousands of visitors from across the region — is canceled due to the spread of coronavirus. : Police ID Bicyclist, Driver Dead In Route 9 Head-On Crash
A bicyclist and the driver of a vehicle that hit him head on after crossing the Route 9 center line in Berkeley Township both died, authorities said. Frank Brooks, 31, of Beachwood, was riding on the shoulder of the northbound lane when a southbound vehicle driven by Jeffrey Martin, 41, of Bayville drifted over and hit him between John F. Kennedy and Sylvan Lakes boulevards around 2:30 p.m. Monday, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene, the prosecutor said. Teacher From Berkeley Arrested After Performing 'Indecent Act' On School Property
A Central Regional Middle School teacher was charged with lewdness after he performed an undisclosed indecent act in front of a minor student, authorities said. Joshua Eckersley, 33, of Berkeley Township, was arrested after the student reported the Jan. 12 incident to authorities, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said. Eckersley was surrendered by his attorney Thursday afternoon and released pending a future court date. He was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
