Two high-profile police investigations in Westchester County—one involving the sexual abuse of a minor and another tied to a nationwide fraud ring—have concluded with major developments in federal court, authorities announced.
According to Bedford Police, the first case began on Aug. 30, 2023, when detectives arrested John Lord, 40, of Arizona, after he engaged in sexual acts with a 15-year-old boy in a wooded area of Katonah earlier that day. A well-known entrepreneur and investor who lives in Northern Westchester is about to open a bookstore in her hometown.
Bedford Books, located at 13 Court Rd. in Bedford, will hold a grand opening celebration on Thursday, Dec. 12 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., according to owner Fran Hauser.

New York's 40th State Senate District voters have officially chosen their next representative.
Democrat Pete Harckham, age 64, has been projected as winning re-election for his fourth term in the New York State Senate seat representing Northern Westchester and parts of Putnam and Rockland counties, according to the state's Board of Elections.
As of just after 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6, Harckham was leading his opponent, Republican Gina Arena, by 50 to 44 percent.
