A 36-year-old Falls Church man faces up to five years in prison after he admitted this week to taking part in a conspiracy that stole millions in federal money earmarked for COVID relief, the Department of Justice said. The deaths of two parents found dead at an Ashburn home have been ruled a murder-suicide, authorities announced. John Sharmoukh, 45, and Mariam A. Farouk Kamal, 31, were found dead at their home on Old Line Terrace just before 9:30 on Tuesday, May 24, authorities in Loudoun County said. A science project at an Ashburn high school ended with the bomb squad evacuating students this week. On Monday, May 23, administrators at Independence High School contacted the school's resource officer about some scorch marks on the sidewalk outside of the school, the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said. First responders called Loudoun County deputies out to the home in the 200060 block of Old Line Terrance just after 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 24. Doctors are warning people in Loudoun and Fairfax counties of a potential measles outbreak. An unvaccinated child recently took a trip out of the country and contracted the virus before returning to the area, the Virginia Department of Health said.
