Bergen County Sheriff Anthony Cureton swore in nine fresh hires and five governmental transfers as officers during a ceremony in Hackensack. A colorful new communication card aims to help officers at the Bergen County sheriff's substation at Bergen Community College and the deaf and hard of hearing understand one another better. A Bergen County correction officer is accused of giving contraband to a county jail inmate. Authorities were purposefully vague about what they contend Jessica Stec, 28, of Elmwood Park, gave to the inmate while an investigation continues.
