Three new gun safety bills have been signed into law to reduce shooting deaths in Connecticut. Before a recent bill-signing ceremony, Gov. Ned Lamont recounted getting a call in January about the random shooting death of a 12-year-old boy on the front porch of his Bridgeport home. “It’s not just a couple of laws that I have the opportunity to sign, it is a movement,” Lamont said during the ceremony at the state Capitol in Hartford. Shot With His Own Gun: Fair Lawn Man Injured Cleaning 9MM In His Garage
A Fair Lawn man shot himself in the hand while cleaning his gun in his garage, police said. The 51-year-old Cyril Avenue man “was pulling back the slide of his legally owned Walther CCP 9mm handgun when he accidentally shot himself in the left hand,” Sgt. Brian Metzler said. The victim took himself to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood for treatment, Metzler said. “Fair Lawn Police responded to the residence and took possession of the weapon,” the sergeant said. “Once he was treated & released from the hospital, his weapon was returned to him.”

A high school science teacher and coach accidentally shot and killed his 34-year-old wife while allegedly cleaning his gun in upstate New York, state police said. Ashley Rosenbrock was pronounced dead at Saratoga Hospital late Thursday night. Harbor Point Man, 23, Shoots Himself While Cleaning Gun, Police Say
A 23-year-old Harbor Point man accidentally shot himself in the hand while cleaning his semi-automatic handgun, according to Stamford Police. Stamford Police Sgt. Brian Butler said officers responded to a call at Harbor Point at 8:30 p.m. Friday on a call that the man had shot himself. When officers arrived on scene the man came out of his residence, with a towel wrapped around his hand, clearly bleeding and asking for an ambulance, Butler said.
