An award-winning chef at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, accused of beating his wife to death at a university hotel, has pleaded not guilty.
Jeffrey MacDonald, 36, of Wilbraham, is charged with murder and assault and battery on a police officer after his arrest at Hotel UMass, according to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office.
Campus police received a 911 call around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, reporting an emergency in Room 413. When they arrived, officers found the body of 31-year-old Emma MacDonald, authorities said.

Christopher Grannis, 38, of Worcester, is charged in the robbery at Pennian Bank in Howe Township (Perry County), Pennsylvania State Police said on Wednesday, April 22.
Troopers were dispatched to the bank on Red Hill Road around 12:45 p.m. on Monday, April 20, for a robbery in progress. The suspect had already fled in a black sedan when officers arrived, police said.

A driver had to be cut from a wrecked vehicle after a violent crash along Route 422 in Chester County, authorities said.
The single-vehicle crash happened in the eastbound lanes near South Keim Street in Pottstown on Monday, April 20, at 12:24 p.m., according to North Coventry Township Police.
Officers determined the vehicle crossed both lanes of travel before striking the center median, police said. It then left the roadway, traveled up an embankment, and slammed into a tree.
