Car Plunges Into Lake In Hudson Valley, Driver Hospitalized Emergency crews rushed to Putnam County's Lake Carmel overnight after a vehicle crashed into the water.  The incident happened around 12:35 a.m. on Sunday, May 17, on West Lakeshore Drive in Lake Carmel, according to the Lake Carmel Fire Department.   Fire officials said dispatchers received reports of a motor vehicle wreck involving a car in the lake, and it was unknown at first whether anyone was still inside the vehicle.   Because of the seriousness of the call, a pre-planned water rescue response was immediately activated.
