Paul Caneiro, an Ocean Township resident, was sentenced to four consecutive life sentences after being convicted of murdering his brother, his sister-in-law and their two children in their Colts Neck home. In levying the sentence, Judge Marc Lemieux called Caneiro, a "callous, heartless, brutal killer." Westchester Woman Dies After Falling Down Manhole In NYC
A 56-year-old Westchester County woman was found dead inside an uncovered manhole in Midtown Manhattan late Monday night, May 18, police said. The incident happened at around 11:19 p.m. on Monday in front of 653 Fifth Ave., within the confines of the Midtown North Precinct, the NYPD told Daily Voice. UPDATE: A 32-year-old man was arrested after his BMW SUV plunged into the Hackensack River following a late-night crash on Route 80, authorities said. DWI Reckless Driver Arrested On Route 80: Mt Olive PD
A 26-year-old Minehill man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated on Route 80 on Sunday, May 17, authorities said. At 11:40 p.m., officers were on patrol when they observed a blue Pontiac speeding on Route 80, Mount Olive police. As officers spoke with the driver, Kyle Beyrent, they detected the odor of alcohol and that he appeared to be impaired, police said. Beyrent was arrested following field sobriety testing, police said. He is charged with DWI, reckless driving, speeding and failure to maintain lane, police said.

A 6-year-old girl was among three people wounded in a shooting in Passaic Sunday night, May 17, authorities said. Passaic police responded to the area of 79 Sherman St. around 8:55 p.m. on a report of a shooting involving multiple victims, according to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia Valdes and Passaic Police Chief Luis Guzman. Basement Fire Tolls 2 Alarms In Madison
A fire that started in the basement quickly spread to the rest of a home in Madison Borough on Sunday, May 17, authorities said. At 7 p.m., firefighters responded to the scene and immediately tolled a second alarm, bringing additional units to the scene, the borough said in a release.
