Belleville Fire Shoots To 12 Alarms, Schools Closed Monday
A massive warehouse fire that sparked a state of emergency in Belleville on Sunday, May 3, has grown into a 12-alarm blaze, with crews still battling flames into Monday, May 4, officials said.
The fire broke out in the Valley section on Cortlandt Street and spread quickly through multiple commercial buildings due to strong winds, Mayor Michael Melham said.
“The fire is contained and no longer spreading, but several large commercial buildings remain actively involved,” Melham said. “As winds begin to pick up again, crews remain on scene and vigilant.”
